The main theme of this workshop on CSR & Corporate Governance conducted during March 20-21, 2014 was Capacity, Capability and Connect. The main focus of the workshop was capacity building and connecting to the partners in rolling out the CSR programme nation- wide, a strong initiative of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs. Samabhavana Society from Mumbai was the organizing NGO partner and IMI Kolkata was the Training partner. The deliberations on Day 1, started with the Convenor for NGOs from IICA, Ms. Gayatri Subramanium. Day I had luminaries from the industry, the likes of IBM, ITC and CESC. Representatives from LinkedIn and Google too participated since the theme was CONNECT. Dr. Tirthankar Nag, Dean (Academics), IMI Kolkata and Dr. Nandita Mishra deliberated on issues like how to do CSR mapping and what business should do. The main theme for Day 2 was Corporate Governance. IMI Kolkata is also affiliated to National Foundation of Corporate Governance and the topic for the day was; “Importance of Corporate Governance for Delivering Effective CSR”. Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Director General and CEO of IICA was the guest of honour and key note speaker. A panel discussion on Corporate Governance saw the likes of Shri Harsh Jha, Former MD Tata Metalliks; Shri Tarun Gupta, Director Finance DVC; Shri Asok Sinha, former Director Finance Coal India; Prof. S. P. Mukherjee, renowned academician and thought leader on CG and Mr. Kaushik Mukherjee, Company Secretary, Phillips Carbon Black.
